November 9: “The Law of Essential Unity” with Rozi Ulics (National Capital Lodge)

Theosophical teachings postulate that One Divine Life is underlying all of existence. Our fundamental task as human beings is to realize it. In this session, we will try to understand this postulate from different perspectives and see it reflected in our own daily lives.

November 16: “Henry Laurency: Theosophical Visionary, Man of Mystery” with Bill Katzenstein (National Capital Lodge)

Please join us to find out more about Henry Laurency (1882-1971), an obscure yet prolific Swedish esoteric philosopher and scholar. He reviewed and expanded upon the works of H.P. Blavatsky and other early Theosophists, taking many of the teachings to new or previously unexplored realms, and attempted to relate Theosophical concepts to the contemporary human arena. Nevertheless, little is known about Laurency the person.

November 23: “Supporting Spiritual Development by Developing a Household Ritual Practice” with Gwendolyn Reece (National Capital Lodge)

Household rituals are a way to sanctify everyday life and can provide structures of support for spiritual development as well as bringing greater sanctity to our closest relationships.  Such rituals are common in most religions, but are also rooted in historical household structures that are often not relevant for our current society.  This lecture explores ways in which each of us can develop new rituals that are meaningful for us now in whatever our circumstance.

No meeting November 30 (Thanksgiving weekend)

The focus will be on some of the immediate predecessors of the late 19th century thinkers, such as the American Transcendentalists, and on some of the late 19th century individuals themselves such as Rudolf Steiner, New Thought writer Thomas Troward, and Hindu teacher Vivekananda.

“The Mystery Schools and the Esoteric Wisdom” with National Speaker Sue Prescott (Krotona)

The “Mystery Schools” refers to the groups of sages and seers who imparted information about spirituality or the Ancient Wisdom to select individuals. This knowledge was transmitted in secret from Master to student through the process known as Initiation. The Mysteries included the Lesser Mysteries (or knowledge for the masses) and the Greater Mysteries, which were comprised of esoteric knowledge about how one can transmute the dictates of the personality to unite with one’s inner divinity. This calls for a transformation within the individual to attain gnosis. Sue Prescott will discuss how and why the Mystery Schools began and look into some of the information that is part of the Esoteric Wisdom.

Awareness of the sevenfold human nature is a steppingstone to advanced theosophical teachings and critical knowledge for any serious student of theosophy.

“Hermeticism” with Allix St. Clair (Florida)

Hermeticism is a modern term for an age-old philosophy that existed in ancient Egypt even before the Pharaohs, and that was remodeled and preserved by the ancient Greeks. The great teachers of this philosophy were named Djuty, Thoth (in Egypt), and Hermes (in Greece). Many carried this name, as it was a school of thought, not just one person, who passed it on over the generations.

Egypt, at that time, was the center of healing and learning and many philosophers and others seeking wisdom came to Egypt from Greece and further east to be initiated into the secrets. Very little still exists from the time of Egypt, except in fragments dug up by archaeologists, and that which has been passed on by legend and stories. In Greece, the neo-platonic philosophers, many of whom lived in Egypt in the great city of Alexandria, blended Egyptian philosophy with their own, which today we call hermeticism.

This presentation will look at some of the hermetic fragments and quotes from them. It will also look at a more modern version of this philosophy, where we can see many concepts very similar to those in theosophy.

Socrates was forced to drink the poison hemlock for communicating with it and contacting it has been the primary purpose of most magical orders, like the Golden Dawn, to facilitate and align with one’s life purpose.

The head of the dragon is our North Node, our destiny and fate, our South Node is the tail of the Dragon and our Karmic connection to the feminine. This is an interactive conversation and we welcome any who want to join us with questions and pondering.

“Bright and Dark Aspects of the Feminine: Jungian Archetypes and Kundalini Yoga” with Dr. June McDaniel

Many mystical schools in world religions have theories of how the inner spiritual body is constructed. Here the lecturer examines a variation of Kundalini Yoga, a meditative practice found in several forms of Hindu Shaktism, or worship of the goddess. It is based on the idea that spirit and matter unite within the person through the union of the deities Shiva and Shakti, the male and female aspects of the universe. As Kundalini Shakti or female energy rises during meditation, it experiences the chakras, centers of instinct which are symbolically located in various places in the body.

In this lecture, the presenter discusses Jungian archetypes which may be associated with the chakras. Carl Jung spoke of the link between archetypes and instincts, but he never formulated them into a system. The lecturer presents a system in which both bright and dark feminine archetypes are organized in relation to the Kundalini chakra system.
